Complex Weavers is delighted to announce that Susan Bowman has agreed to chair Complexity 2018, our biennial exihibit. Susan has previously served on the Complexity committee and chaired two acclaimed international exhibits for the Pikes Peak Weavers Guild. Her own work has been shown in juried exhibits since 1995. You can read more about Susan’s life in weaving in the September 2016 newsletter.
Designing Weavers is holding its annual exhibit and holiday boutique, November 19th and 20th, at the Sierra Madre Woman’s Club in Sierra Madre, CA. CW members are cordially invited to drop by and join them to view, discuss and (even) touch the latest in fiber art and fashion.
We are grateful to Sheila Carey (chair), Suzi Gough and Stacey Harvey-Brown for serving as the Nominating Committee for our 2017 elections.
The following positions are due for election:
If you are interested in one of these positions, or if you know a fellow member you would like to see in office, please let the Nominating Committee know by 30 November 2016. You can contact the committee chair through our online contact form.
To mark the 40th Anniversary of CW in 2018, we will be publishing our first full-color book. Eight Shafts: Beyond the Beginning will provide a modern look at using eight shafts and 8-shaft combinations in inspiring ways through finished pieces.
You can see an outline of the project here. There are links to further details and to the sign-up form. Note that you will need to be logged in to the website to proceed.
Submission is open to all CW members, and we hope that you will feel as excited about this project as we do. You do not need to be a master weaver, published author, award winner, or known teacher to participate. As you consider a piece to enter, focus on what takes the work “beyond the beginning” and into something uniquely yours.
We are hosting a reception in the Jazz Gallery at the Riverwest Artists Association on Friday August 5 from 6 – 8 pm. View Complexity 2016, enjoy refreshments, and chat with weavers – we would love to meet you.
The gallery is at 926 E Center Street, Milwaukee, WI. Public transportation is available, as is a taxi or Uber. If you are attending HGA’s Convergence, Bus #14 departs from the Convention Center (400 West Wisconsin Avenue) and you can take it to the stop at Humboldt & Center; there is a two-minute walk from the bus stop to Jazz Gallery.
Hope to see you there!
We are delighted to announce that Complex Weavers’ Greatest Hits is back in print!
This book, a compilation of CW members’ favourite drafts, was published in 2000 in honor of the 21st birthday of Complex Weavers. It includes drafts from 2 to ? shafts, drafts for drawlooms, kumihimo, tablet weaving, and passementerie. Each draft includes threading or block profile, tieup, treadling or peg plan (both when possible), and a drawdown if applicable. Suggested uses for the draft are included. The author of each design is given.
The book also includes a CD with all the drafts in .wif format.
