Invitation to register for the 2020 Annual Meeting

In this unusual year, we are adopting an alternative way to hold our Annual General Meeting. Instead of gathering personally at Seminars, we will be meeting virtually on July 22, 2020 via Zoom Webinar.

The Webinar will go live at 10 AM PST (Seattle time). We expect the meeting to last 90 minutes or less. (For reference: 10am Seattle = 1pm New York = 6pm London = 7pm Amsterdam = 3am July 23 Sydney)

In the meeting, we will present an overview of the past year, talk a little about what is coming up and install our new officers: President-elect Cathy McCarthy, and First Vice President-elect Eileen Driscoll. We will hear reports from other directors and committee chairs. It’s a good chance to “meet” the dedicated volunteers who make up the CW Board and get to know our organization a little better.

We have an added bonus to the meeting.  Philis Alvic will give us a short talk about the early 20th century weaving centers in the Appalachian Mountains.

So that we can know how many will be attending, we ask you to let us know in advance if you would like to join the meeting. Members should log in and sign up here no later than June 20, 2020.

CW Seminars has been cancelled

A message from Seminars 2020 Co-Chairs Cathie Chung and Diane Smith:

“2020 has been a roller coaster year so far. We hope you and your families are safe and healthy.

“Planning Seminars 2020 has been quite the challenge. Seminars is an exciting part of Complex Weavers, and that excitement helped keep our planning focused and on track despite significant obstacles. However, making sure we can all stay healthy is our highest concern, and we have concluded that we must do the responsible thing.

“It is with mixed emotions we are cancelling Seminars 2020. We will miss seeing everyone and exchanging ideas.

“The volunteer efforts that went into planning Seminars 2020 are appreciated more than we can say. As with everything in our organization, the tasks required to create our conference were generously handled by volunteers. In addition, as we navigated the many challenges that came our way, everyone involved responded with patience and understanding, for which we are grateful. Thank you.”

Message to CW Members

Complex Weavers President, Mimi Anderson, has sent the following message to all members.

Dear Complex Weavers members,

These are extraordinary times that we are facing. Our hearts go out to those impacted by COVID-19. This includes not only those diagnosed with the virus, but also their friends and families whose jobs, schools and lives have been affected.

Because of the situation we take a “wait and see” directive regarding the scheduled Seminars 2020, and Complexity, both planned for Knoxville, TN in July.

We are not a brick and mortar organization, fortunately, and our primary goal – to further the interest in weaving and related textile arts – can happen without meeting face-to-face. However, cancelling Seminars and Complexity would have significant financial ramifications for our organization, as well as being a huge disappointment.  So, at the moment, we are gathering information, paying close attention to the recommendations of the authorities and grappling with deciding the best course of action.

If you are registered or have considered coming, please hang onto that thought.  There are spaces available. Of course, if we need to cancel the entire event, all registrations will be refunded, less minimal administrative costs incurred.

As we all continue to adjust our daily lives while “hunkering down”, we hope you find a creative refuge in the safety of your home. Tapping into our creativity is one of the best ways to connect with ourselves and our loved ones.

Stay safe and stay tuned.

Mimi

CW Seminars is moving

Due to circumstances beyond our control, CW Seminars will be relocating to the Hilton Knoxville.  It is a short walk via covered skybridge to the Knoxville Convention Center. You can look forward to all the same events and seminars. We have worked out a smooth transition to the new venue, with just a little extra effort by those who have already booked at the Holiday Inn.
