This is a successor to the Structures Group, which was started by Judy Eatough in 2002, and led by Jayne Flanagan since 2019.
This group will meet by Zoom, four times a year, on dates/times to be agreed by the members. Full details of how the group will function will be discussed and agreed at the first meeting, but, broadly, the plan is to agree on a particular structure to study each year. Members will then undertake their own study from a starting point of their own experience of the chosen structure to date. E-mail contact between meetings will be encouraged to share ideas, detail suitable study resources, etc. At each Zoom meeting a small number of members will present and share the results of their study to the other members via a written report, display of woven samples, drawdowns, photographs, etc. It is anticipated that new and innovative ideas will arise from this joint study, and that all members will develop an improved understanding of each structure. The reports will be stored in the Complex Weavers’ online system, and we will periodically share our study with the wider Complex Weavers’ membership via Journal articles.
There will be no physical sample exchange and therefore no fee for membership (unless the group jointly agrees to expend funds for a specific reason).
There is no specific minimum number of shafts required to join the group (although we cannot guarantee that you will not suffer Shaft Envy at some stage!). You will however require e-mail, internet access and, ideally, weaving software.
