Joe Coca

Joe Coca was born in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Southern Colorado. His mother was an avid amateur photographer who loved to photograph her family.  It rubbed off on him.

In 1973 Joe graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO with a degree in Journalism. He went to work for CSU, but also started doing freelance assignments for various newspapers. He loved photography but felt he didn’t know enough stuff about it so he decided to go back to school. In 1976 he moved to L.A. and started school at Art Center College of Design and immersed himself in photography.

Joe returned to Fort Collins in 1978 and has been doing commercial assignments for the last 39 years. At his studio or on location he shoots for a host of different clients.

Hands On: Photographing Textiles

301 Thursday AM

Cloth unites us all connecting every society on earth. Weavers discover this and become facinated with their craft. Come learn from the best.  Joe Coca has been photographing textiles for almost 40 years.  His work has been widely seen by weavers in the pages of Handwoven, Piecework, and Spin-Off, as well as many weaving books published by Interweave Press.  A group of individuals registered for this class will be tapped to bring actual handwoven fabric, and Joe will demonstrate how he would photograph them.
