Title=Sunrise and Window Sash table - EAC 2013 samples.wif
; Creation Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 15:26
[NOTES]
=SUNRISE and WINDOW SASH - EAC 2013 samples exchange
=
=2013 sample exchange of Early American Coverlets study group of Complex Weavers
=Samples due in 2013 October to Gay McGeary, coordinator - Carlisle, Pennsylvania
=Weaver: Judi Mulloy - Crawfordville, Florida
=
=SUNRISE WITH WINDOW SASH TABLE overshot design
=Original coverlet woven by an anonymous Weaver of Floyd County, Virginia in the late 19th century; Size 87"x 61"; two panels; cotton warp, wool and cotton weft
=
=SOURCE: pages 12 & 13 - TEXTILE ART FROM SOUTHERN APPALACHIA: THE QUIET WORK OF WOMEN by Kathleen Curtis Wilson - 2001 - Overmountain Press - Johnson City, Tennessee
=
=YARNS: warp & tabby - 20/2 mercerized cotton; pattern weft 8/2 Jaggerspun wool
=
=SUNRISE SECTION = 227 warp ends & 158 pattern weft; use tabby
=WINDOW SASH TABLE = 157 warp ends & 136 pattern weft; use tabby
=NOTE: PURPLE in warp draft = beginning and ending of each of these two sections
=227 + 157 = 384 total WARP ends for my samples (plus add 2 ends each edge for floating selvedges)
=153 + 136 = 254 total PATTERN weft picks for my samples - use tabby
=
=REED: 10 dent reed - 45 ends per inch - 4 ends per dent alternates w/ 5 ends per dent
=Width in reed: 8.50 inches
=
=HEDDLE COUNTS BY SHAFT NUMBER for my samples:
=Shaft 1 2 3 4
=Count 130 78 62 114 = 384 + 2 ends each floating selvedge = 388
=
=The drawdowna and my samples are ONE REPEAT of the TWO SECTIONS OF THIS OVERSHOT DESIGN in both the warp threading and the weft treadling; use tabby.
=
=TREADLING: LIFT the white squares of the tie-up to see the face of the fabric while weaving - which matches the picture in the book.
=
=Charlotte Weber, EAC member, created the initial draft of Sunrise with Window Sash.
=I am very grateful that she did so! Thank you, Charlotte!
=
=Gay McGeary e-mailed me a .wif copy of Charlotte Weber's draft of this coverlet.
=The draft is on the front of these notes.I had the draft enlarged so that I could enter it into my PCW-Fiberworks program.
=
=As I entered the draft, I saw five spots in the Sunrise section that did not follow the Overshot twill progression. GREEN in the warp draft indicates the area where the threading went from shaft (1) up to shaft (3). I changed the shaft (3) to shaft (4).
=
=TURQUOISE in the warp draft indicates the CENTER of BOTH pattern sections.
=From the center of each, I made mirror images within each section; the RED in the warp draft are only counting marks that helped me.
=
=DRAFT PRINTOUTS ... I have sent THREE draft printouts; they are not the same.
=>One is the draft Gay sent me that Charlotte drafted. It is all on ONE page.
=The other draft is divided onto TWO pages:
=>One page for the SUNRISE section with the SUNRISE treadling.
=>One page for the WINDOW SASH TABLE section with the WINDOW SASH treadling.
=They both include the changes I made in the warp THREADING; there are no changes in the TREADLING.
=
=These two warp drafts I used to weave my samples.
=I wove from the bottom of the drafts upwards.
=WHAT I TREADLED is DIFFERENT from the printout in the drafts.
=Turn the sample so that it looks like the printout that Charlotte drafted.
=>> The bottom left hand corner is the WINDOW SASH section. Below and above the center "X" I wove 5 horizontal "window panes" rows instead of the 7 rows shown in the draft.
=>> Continue upwards by looking into the SUNRISE section ABOVE the Window Sash. I wove 3 points below and above the center "X" instead of the 4 points shown in draft.
