Study Group Chair's Duties:
10.
Are you willing to keep at least minimal financial records so that you
know who is paid up and for how long, and whether the group is breaking even?
11.
Are you willing to make sure that the people in your study group are
up-to-date in their CW dues?
12.
Are you willing to write occasional articles for the CW newsletter and other
CW publications advertising your group and have your name and address
included? The web page uses only name and email addresses.
13.
Are you willing to keep in contact with the members of your group as
needed and be prompt in responding to their needs? (The study group
chair is often the only CW representative that the person sees.) Are you
willing to participate in the study group leaders' online list serve? (This is a
way for the Study Group Coordinator to disseminate and collect information,
and for the chairs to discuss policy and group issues while getting to know
each other).
14.
Are you willing to represent your study group or CW at (local) area and
national conferences or find a delegate from your group to take your place?
15.
Are you willing to send copies of your group materials (newsletters, etc.)
to the CW Study Group Coordinator (and through her, the library) and a
second copy to the branch librarian? If this is to be an online group are
you willing to permit the Study Group Coordinator to sit in on
communications from time to time?
16.
Can you interact with people in a consistently open-minded, pleasant,
and fair manner but be firm when you need to be?
17.
Are you willing to give gentle reminders when needed? (And respond well
to gentle reminders when you need them?)
Topic:
18.
What inspired you to start this group?
19.
What is the main topic of your group?
20.
Give some examples of sub-topics that would be acceptable.
21.
What do you consider off-topic?
Study Group Chair's Job:
22.
Will you lead in-person meetings?
23.
Will you be solely a compiler and passer of information sent to you by members?
24.
Will you write a section of each newsletter?
25.
Will you also be contributing articles, swatches, drafts?
26.
Will you be doing any editing, proof-reading, checking, or reformatting of
incoming materials?
27.
Do you see yourself as a mentor or teacher in this group?
Communication:
28.
Will you meet in person?
29.
If so, when and where?
30.
Will you have a newsletter?
31.
Will you use regular mail, email, or both?
32.
Will your group eventually publish booklets and/or monographs?
Newsletter:
33.
Will the group have a newsletter?
34.
How often will it published?
35.
Will it be on paper, electronic, or both?
36.
Will the members of this group be required to contribute to the newsletter?
37.
How often?
38.
How many copies of the material to be included in the Newsletter should
be sent to the Chair?
39.
Will members copy, collate, staple, attach samples, and otherwise
assemble their own contribution? (Highly recommended as it will save a
lot of your time.
40.
Will each newsletter cover a specific subsection of your topic? (For
example, each Symmetry Study Group newsletter covers a specific set
of symmetry types.) Will you allow a CD copy of your newsletter in the
library in addition to the paper copy? Will it be just for back up or allowed
to circulate? A CD is a good back-up in case the library copy is lost. A
circulating copy allows overseas members the chance to borrow at
considerably reduced cost. The drawback is that some are uncomfortable
with the ease of copying a CD compared to a notebook.
Sample Exchanges:
41.
Will there be a swatch or draft exchange?
42.
When are swatches due?
43.
How many swatches are expected in each exchange?
44.
How many exchanges are there per year?
45.
Does the topic for the samples change from year to year or on some
other schedule?
46.
If so, what are some of your ideas for topics?
Membership:
47.
Do you wish to limit the number of members (for example, 15, or 25 for
swatch exchanges, etc.)?
48.
How many?
49.
Are there any restrictions to membership? (Limits in size or level of
expertise should be made known to potential members.)
50.
What do you feel the benefits to your group's members will be?
Fees:
51.
What are the fees for members from your country?
52.
What are the fees for members from overseas?
53.
If back issues or sample copies of your newsletters will be available from
you, how much will they cost?
54.
Are there any extra materials a member must send in (such as a formatted
diskette)?
55.
Will members copy their own contributions?
56.
How often will people pay their fee? (Once a year? Once an exchange?
Every newsletter?)
57.
When will people pay? (Only in January? Anytime?)
