We are a mixed group, with a few new members of CW who have never woven crackle before, and others who wish to experiment further with this weave structure. Our annual samples and discussions in the newsletter are intended to serve both types of members. So far our membership has stayed at from 14 to 18, making it a more intimate group than some, but there are no restrictions either in numbers or expertise in weaving. Our purpose is to educate ourselves and share with each other the creative possibilities available in crackle. We are a marvelously diverse group. It does mean that we cannot meet in person, but we do communicate freely by mail and e-mail. Most of the membership have email addresses, and this provides an easy way for participants to communicate with the Chair. However, since there are several members who do not have access to e-mail, the newsletters and formal correspondence are sent by regular post Study group members are encouraged to contribute to the newsletter. They need to send only one copy to the Chair, who will then have the material photocopied with the rest of the newsletter. We have two swatch exchanges each year, in the spring and fall. The exchanges have been voluntary, and the number of samples required has been ten to twelve. I have compiled a small monograph that gives an overview of the crackle weaves structure and includes a bibliography. It is available to any CW member for $1.00, which includes postage. |
