The Computer-aided Design Exchange Group has, as its purpose, the exchange of ideas. It asks its members to look at the work they are doing on the computer and comment on that work. The Computer-aided Design Exchange Group members share with their fellow members not only their ideas but also their unique approach to design and how they work with a particular structure, including which software tools are useful in the development of new drafts and designs.
There are two newsletters per year. Dues of $8.50 a year are due in January and begin with the February newsletter. When you join, you are sent copies of any newsletters in the current year's set if there are any remaining. Dues are used for mailing newsletters and xeroxing the chair's informational letter.
Every member is expected to contribute information once each year. This is an important part of our group and we have found that this is necessary for the vitality of the group. A year's membership means one contribution of information is due whether you decide to renew your membership or not. Members are asked to send enough copies to cover one for each member, two for the CW libraries, and a few to be sent to new members when they join.
All of the known contributions by group members over the years have been indexed in LibraryThing. The member name is weavingcade. Just browsing there is a pleasure and an education.
We want to know how you approach designing. Contributions are generally in the form of an article with a few original drafts and a discussion of their development and use. There are no restrictions on number of shafts or the weave structures used. Questions your article might address include:
- What inspired you?
- Where did you start?
- Why did you choose this structure for this design?
- How did you modify your original design ideas?
- How did you get to the end point?
- How did you decide this was the end point?
- Where might you go with this idea in the future?
- How did you utilize weaving and other software in your design work?
- Did the programs you used affect your final design?
- What reference materials did you find useful?
The group has been active for 20 years and some of the original members are still part of the group. While these are fairly advanced weavers, we welcome anyone who is interested in doing original thinking and work, at any level. Please do not feel hesitant to send your information. Several of the members have commented that putting together their yearly contribution helped them organize their work and develop new ideas. We often refer to previous articles in recognition of their importance to us. No matter where you are in your learning and growing curve, we all learn from each other.
Note: You must be a member of Complex Weavers to belong to a study group. Please check your expiration date (Last Issue Date, LID), or contact Frances Alcorn at alcorn@nwlink.com
