- Consider, yes. Attend, probably no, unless Canada.
- As long as blackout dates for cheap airfares were considered
- I am no longer able to weave because of macular degeneration in both eyes.
- Depends on the location being of interest to me.
- Depends on where it is held
- If in England
- I have never traveled out of US/Canada. I might if English would get me by.
- Unfortunately, cost is a primary consideration.
- Canada yes. Alaska yes. Maybe Hawaii.
- Doubt that I would travel to Europe or UK
- If they were in alternate years from Convergence and in a central location i.e. mid-US-probably a college campus would be cheapest-and a few days longer so some seminars could be repeated so we could get into the ones we really want. With a few more days maybe we could get some vendors, my state guild, FL, does and its no bigger. I would want 4 days, not 3, for off years.
- I would only go to Canada.
- I would consider outside the US if I could combine it with side trips of interest to my husband. I did attend in Vancouver.
- I did attend in Vancouver. I also attended Convergence in Toronto.
- Cost might be an issue for outside North America.
- If distance were not too great, I would consider it.
- Maybe. Canada would be ok, but I think the U.K. etc. wouldn't work for me.
- But I'm boycotting flying, until something comes along that I can't resist and can't get there any other way.
- The Netherlands has a high degree in following seminars; they speak English (+/-) For France you need a translator.
- But they would have to coincide with something else I wanted to do.
- Regarding questions 4 and 5--Yes, I'd "consider", but odds are against being able to attend.
- Depends where - expenses are an issue for me at this time.
- I think it would be great to attend outside of the US. However, cost is not as important to me as it might be to a lot of other weavers.
- Travel costs and additional attractions would be the major consideration. Having Seminars and Convergence near the same time and location makes the travel costs a two-for-one deal.
- The question is, would I "consider" going if separate from Convergence? In the end, it would depend on many factors, such as, does Convergence offer something that year that I am particularly interested in. If you were thinking about separating CW and Convergence, perhaps the opposite year would be a good alternative also. Don't make me decide on two conferences in one year. Financially, I am more likely to be able to go to both if not at the same place if held in different years.
- Probably no, but maybe
- Cost would definitely factor into the decision, not so much location.
- Travel would be much more costly. Ergo I'd want to stay in whatever area it is longer along with DH. This all means I'd need more warning. But it'd be brilliant . .
- Again, cost is a factor.
- Probably would be too expensive for me, unless held near Grenoble, France so I could stay with family.
- That's a qualified no. Canada would be a consideration for me. Other locations outside the US might be a possibility, would come under closer scrutiny.
- After my kids are out of college
- If the airport and location were compatible
- It would depend upon where and when
- Cost becomes a big consideration and I don't fly. However I think in the interest of serving weavers everywhere you should hold it outside the US on a periodic basis. Maybe I'll take up sailing if you decide to go to Europe, good motivation!
- I no longer travel.
- Attending is about education and interaction, not visiting the location. "Where" outside the US would relate to price point. Over the border is more likely to be less costly than a long flight. I also have limited vacation time, so hate to waste it on travel days.
- Probably not but it would depend on the place
- At the moment, I need a new passport! And the expense would be a factor.
- Due to life circumstances, cost has become the biggest issue, which does not lessen my desire to attend; just means it's less likely unless close to where I live.
- Yes and No. Cheap accommodations are a plus. Low cost chartered flight? Drivable? (i.e. Canada)
- I am thinking the travel cost would put this out of my reach.
- Although I answered yes, it is questionable. We are retired.
- Very convenient to make one trip of this, with seminars just ahead of convergence. Travel is expensive!
- I attended several World Craft conferences and it gave me a network around the world. I went to Japan, Austria, Canada. You can save the money when you know about it beforehand.
- Cost would be big factor.
- Location and cost would become a much higher priority.
- Explanation to 4 and 5: I'm living in Germany; so seminars should be either in conjunction to Convergence or in Europe, if possible
- Since I am from outside the U.S. I have found it convenient to combine Convergence with CW but recent disappointment with Convergence programme could change this.
- In Canada.
- Depends on content, and also whether or not I could combine the trip with a personal agenda
- Location should rotate to reflect the country of residence of the membership.
- Myself living outside US chances are that would be closer to home :-)
- Well, maybe. Travel costs and housing conditions to be considered.
- Canada would be the most attractive
- It would be much harder, though
- Generally do not travel outside US, except Canada & Mexico
- I would consider it but cost is a huge factor.
- It would depend on where, and the appeal of that place, as well as the relative difficulty of getting there--but of course, why not?
- I would consider this, but the time, location and cost would have to be reasonable.
- Although I've rated them only 4 & 5 above, location (and time too) in relationship to where Convergence is held are important to me as they factor in such a major way into the cost of attending.
- The cost of airfare might make it prohibitive to me, but I would try to come if not to expensive.
- Any excuse to travel!
- It would be a bigger decision, and due to cost of travel, would have to be combined w/ a personal vacation if overseas.
- I am not at all interested in going to a Convergence, but would like to attend more Complex Weavers events.
- Maybe Canada
- Of course that depends on location - Europe is feasible, Australia not so much (even though I'd love to go there!)
- Added expense of travel might make it too costly - if money was no object the travel could be great fun
- Too expensive; if less cost, then perhaps.
- Realistically, this would be too expensive for me. Unless you mean Canada.
- Re question 4 only if there was some other textile event in close proximity time-wise because of the distance travelled.
- This is really more of a maybe, as cost would become much more of a factor.
- I might go to Canada, but otherwise it would be too inconvenient.
- Depends on the cost. It would be better for those members outside the USA who either cannot come, or can't get a visa. You have to be rich in order to get a visa to the USA. That means demonstrate lots of money in the bank in the country of origin.
- I would go in a heart beat if I was able to, but being a caregiver makes that difficult at the moment
- I do want to attend some day but have a couple other trips planned this summer and this doesn't fit in
- Possible but not definite
- Canada would be one I would consider, but not elsewhere.
- I think this would be great!
- I'm not able to travel much so don't know if my comments are important. I do enjoy the journal.
- Please. Even an exotic location where perhaps we combine a tour of other country fibre doings as well. Or in Canada, but having organised a cross border conference (ANWG) there are unique challenges. Not insurmountable but challenging.
- If outside of the US, I would be interested in touring the area with my family rather than being inside attending classes.
- Possibly Canada. Not with current terrorist policies.
- But - if flying is involved, probably not due to the cost and the state of flying - I'm pretty much at a point that if I can't drive to it, I'll probably not go.
- I don't think I could afford the travel expense. I'd love to do it however.
- It would depend on the cost
- Montreal, Quebec City, or other eastern Canada location would be ideal!
- Canada only
- Would be open to attending in Canada; a weaving retreat on a cruise ship would be nice
- But it depends on where.
- ETN could be a good partner
- Age and health
- I love coming to USA but if they were held elsewhere, it would give a chance to see another place.
- While my answer is yes to this proposed idea, it would definitely be a bit more complicated for me. It might have more restrictions on my ability to attend. But I am certainly open to it.
- I don't fly; a ship-board seminar might be interesting
- The Seminars would have to be truly extraordinary
- I would love going, but I think money and time would really cause me not to be able to go.
- Only if in conjunction with Convergence, to keep expense of travel down
- Not that I wouldn't absolutely love to, but there's no way I could afford to.
- Assuming that this would not be the case every time the seminars were held
- Maybe Canada
- I'd consider Canada.
- Would go to Canada, only
- It may be a good idea for the group to do this. But I doubt I could come.
- Looms would need to be provided as in a folk school in Scandinavia, etc.
- Cost would be an issue with travel outside USA/Canada/Mexico but I would consider it.
- It will depends on the time of the year
- Maybe
- If seminars are held separate from Conv. then it really should be a significant separation in time and locale.
- Part of the reason I have not attended is that the seminars (and convergence) are normally far away and travel costs are prohibitive.
- I would certainly if it were Canada, further away, I guess I'm not sure.
- I would consider a seminar in Canada.
- Only if they're in North America - Canada or the Caribbean.
- In Australia, maybe, it’s a big country.
- Cost and the unpleasant conditions of flying today would be negative to me.
- Your web server just erased my first answer which was not rude or objectionable. I said if I were still employed I could consider outside travel but it is not an option on social security
- I vote for Western Canada!
- In my situation, a long period of time away from home is less preferable to shorter periods of time; so, a long weekend for Convergence, then later in the year, a long weekend or a few days for CW Seminars, is more likely than 8-10 days in a row. Financially, outside the continental US is prohibitive right now.
- Have passport, would love to travel outside of North America, but it would likely be outside both my time & money budgets.
- Probably not but maybe...
- I live in Sweden. I would be lucky if I will go to one Seminar in the USA.
- It would be easier and less expensive for me to attend a seminar in Europe.
- Travel is also difficult for me, and direct flights would be important.
- I applaud the weavers outside the USA who find Convergence & Complex Weavers important to attend! Cost of going outside USA or Canada would keep me from attending a CW seminar. I dream.
- If combined with Convergence or another big event
- Travel time would be the reason I wouldn't as I am still working full time.
- The fact that I live in Australia says it all. I can't afford to travel to the US (or outside Australia), as much as I would love to attend. Regarding Q6 would you consider holding the Seminars in Australia?
- Definitely if it was closer to or preferably in Australia.
- The cost would be the largest factor if I didn't attend. OTOH, the chance for travel would certainly enhance trip, especially if I was assured I'd not have a language difficulty. Europe would cause only money issues.
- See above answer to Q3 as I'm in the UK
- International travel costs would be prohibitive for me.
- Oops, need to renew my passport!
- Canada would be great - any other country would be too far away.
- Would depend somewhat on cost. More likely to go to Germany than Japan or Australia.
- Should be in Germany or neighbouring countries
- Elsewhere: New Zealand and Australia
- Visiting a new part of the world is exciting in itself.
- If I could afford the travel...
- I am not prepared for the expense or difficulty of traveling overseas.
- Can’t travel long distances due to health
- I don’t travel much
