- Elevator access – arthritic knees!
- Timing has not been right as I have children, and Seminars have been right around July 4 (our family vacation time).
- Cost is very important. College dorm facilities generally have been good although I know some do not like dorm housing. Cost is a very high priority on my list. I also feel more networking and connections would be done in college housing. Hotels may be very private and not allow us to visit with others as much. I would prefer to reserve final judgement on hotel facilities until I see how 2010 proceeds. Food options very important too. Hopefully 2010 will address this. As for the lecture facilities in a hotel, that should be really great. Of important consideration is if the hotel will have an AV expert on hand to address the needs should such arise. In most cases where things went awry, it was because of communication gaps. You needed a maybe category for question 4 and 5. Grin here.
- Should tie into Convergence. I would like more seminars to be repeated so I could get into the ones important to me. I sent my application on Dec. 11 and still got only half the seminars important to me. And these are not available in any other venue.
- I chose not to go to Florida because of the climate at that time of year.
- Air conditioning, walkability (I'm somewhat mobility impaired)
- Availability of spousal housing/feeding. This is an occasional need for me.
- The USA is far away.
- Cost may not be a top consideration, but it's a real one. I tend to add up the package (transportation, lodging, food, registration, etc.) then divide by the number of days, and if it's more than $350/day, it's out of the question. FWIW, I still have a FT job and limited vacation, so doing Convergence AND CW is not possible for me.
- The only reason I would like it to be the same time as Convergence is that the cost of travel could be spread over two events. However, in some respects it is quite exhausting to attend both.
- Cost of housing
- Re dates: Having the seminar in New Mexico is wonderful this year. But July!!!! When my husband and I finally get to New Mexico, we want to go at a reasonable time of year, spring being best, or fall to winter. Is it really necessary to tie the Complex Weavers to Convergence?
- Convergence has been jerking the strings long enough. They don't know where their conferences are 2 years ahead. They used to know 6 to 8 years ahead. Waiting for their decisions implies CW needs them and the reality is they need CW. It's time for CW to show its strength and cut the string.
- Access to decent and reasonably priced food.
- The cost of travel to a location is a factor as well as the cost of the conference. So distance from my home affects that. For certain expenses, I feel that I can get as much value from buying reference books that I can keep with me or a new loom, as going to a conference.
- I guess course content is implied under the item classes/instructors?
- How many people are allowed in a class.
- Teachers experience in teaching their subject.
- Opportunities to interact with like-minded individuals.
- I no longer travel
- I like a location that fosters community. I travel a lot for work, so staying in a hotel = work to me. Staying at a college or retreat center with suites and community gathering places is more relaxing.
- Since I am not a well-heeled weaver, and I work to support myself, cost is a very real factor. I've often camped when attending other conferences. I would like the ability to choose a single workshop or lecture, and not the whole conference.
- I'm interested in research as much as process. Historical information is important to me.
- Availability for handicapped
- I would rank all the factors as fairly equally important, although as to the hotel, cost would be an important factor.
- I think many of us were disappointed that CW could only take a certain number of participants when it was held in a hotel and that there was no space for all of us wanting to attend. Perhaps in the future we have to look for a location that has more space, if that was the case.
- The informal atmosphere and size.
- I am unable to attend the seminars
- I prefer a workshop format to a seminar format
- I like a mixture of practical seminars and lecture format
- Most important - informal time to interact, to walk to classes with random other attendees, get together in each other’s room, eat together as a group.
- Summer is about the only time of the year that I have time off from work and am able to attend.
- Being on a fixed income, most everything I do any more depends on the cost. Too bad money and time does not coincide.
- If I have to get on a plane to get there it probably won't happen
- Easy access from major airport
- Coming from a distance, it is always great if I can do more than 1 thing at once If it wasn't linked to Convergence I would like to find some other activity to link it to, even if it was just a holiday. One of the main reasons I come is to catch up with friends and network with others of the same interest.
- Are enough classes offered that I can have a good chance of getting some that I really want
- Use of the entire day for learning. Breakfast, morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner and evening classes or learning groups.
- Having enough openings! I was profoundly disappointed to discover that this year's seminars had filled before I could register. And since a friend and I planned to attend together, the waiting list wasn't a viable option.
- There has to be a way of making the seminars more affordable and available to all. Not get to the point where seminars are sold out almost before registration starts. This should be a community for all. More weavers, more yarn and tools available. It is going to get worse. Maybe stagger seminars maybe every year and held on both coasts of the country at different times: Spring and fall?
- Why does it have to be in the summer? And why does it have to happen with Convergence?
- I would love to attend but have conflicts with other things I am doing in my life and could not fit it in this year
- For me the exchange rate plays heavily into my attendance to American based events.
- Please consider linking with TSA, Textile Society of America
- Interesting events, areas close to the site for an extended vacation.
- The equipment I need to bring for the workshop/seminar
- Exhibitions and market
- Age and health keep me from future seminars
- I live in the UK and would not travel to USA for a seminar alone.
- The company of other weavers and the great social atmosphere.
- I do like it after convergence and think you should set the registration date to be the same as convergence. The early Dec registration is too close to the holidays, end of Dec you were full. I want to come but still of wait list.
- I cannot take the time to attend both.
- I have attended all of the CW Seminars. Wonderful conference!
- Prefer small college setting over hotel
- Being in a hotel would not matter as long as it done not increase the cost.
- I haven't been pleased with the choice of Convergence locations lately - July in the South... Yuk!!!
- I live in Australia so can’t attend any anyway.
- Would prefer 1 or 2 day workshops or seminars
- Since I do NOT like to fly, I only attend Convergence when it is a day's drive away.
- I don't actually care if CW is near Convergence, just that it not overlap - in this case it overlaps vendor set-up days and makes it impossible to attend classes. Thank you for the guest registration, hopefully we will be able to participate in evening events.
- Accessibility for someone who has difficulty walking is becoming important to me.
- Since I have never attended a CW at a hotel, I can't really gauge my feelings, but have loved the campus atmosphere in the past.
- I have been taking classes and working and haven't had time to devote to weaving and being part of this group, so my answers may not be helpful. I hope to be able to attend someday.
- I am a mother of 2 young children in Australia, so location in very important.
- Having more registration spaces!!!!!! Limiting it to 125 or so is just not enough to meet the needs of our members! Former registration chairperson, and someone who did not get in the first 3 days of registration this year. I am really bummed.
- Because am from New Zealand I like it combined with Convergence
- I rated the instructors last because I feel they are all good.
- Being able to even attend the conference, since this year apparently members can't even come unless we signed up within 24 hours of the registration process beginning 6 months before the scheduled conference. Very disappointing! Wonder if the journal alone is worth the membership if that continues.
- I work full time with limited vacation during the school year so time is the most important for me. I would have attended this year but missed that registration was earlier so I didn't get a slot.
- It's been frustrating not to be able to attend seminars. I dithered too long this year and understand there's no room ... will move more quickly in two years
- As I'm in the UK cost/location are closely related. Any seminar in USA is probably (sadly) out of my budget by the time travel cost is included.
- Number attending
- I am new to Complex Weavers. I live in the UK and would only attend if it coincides with Convergence. However the classes need to be interesting and in depth enough to make the trip worthwhile. Having said that I have family in the US so might answer yes to number 4 below if I could combine Complex Weavers with a family visit.
- I prefer smaller class. It is important to be able to see and hear everything that happens in a class.
- I don’t travel much.
