Robyn Spady

SpadyrR_O

Robyn was introduced to handweaving as a baby with her handwoven baby blanket woven by her great-grandmother. Inspired by her blankie, she learned to weave at a young age and completed HGA’s COE-W in 2004. Robyn is fascinated by the infinite possibilities of crossing threads and loves coming up with new ideas to create fabric and transform it into something new and exciting. She is committed to turning the weaving world on to double-faced fabrics, four-shaft weaves, uncommon and advanced weave structures, and narrow warp weaves.

Versatility of the Double Two-Tie Threading

105 Saturday AM

The double two-tie threading is one of the most versatile threadings. If you’re a weaver looking for a challenge and have a desire to augment your understanding of how this threading system can be leveraged into multiple weave structures, from plaited twills to taqueté to much more, then this class is for you! This seminar will review the following:

  •  Fundamentals of tied weaves
  •  Review of the double two-tie threading
  •  Examine how the double two-tie threading can be adapted into different weaves

Designing & Weaving Stitched Double Cloth

525 Monday AM

Stitched double cloth is a member of the multiple-layer weaves family. It is created when two or more independent layers of fabric are warped on the same loom, woven simultaneously, and periodically stitched together as part of the weaving process. The end result is a fabric created from two or more separate and distinctive cloths, but may be handled as a single layer. In designing and weaving stitched double cloth, there are numerous considerations that must be made and different effects that may be achieved. This seminar reviews:

  •  A step-by-step approach for designing and drafting stitched double cloth
  •  Compare and contrast the design and weaving of different stitching options
  •  The purpose, challenges, advantages, disadvantages of this technique
  •  Document the considerations and limitations that must be well thought-out and executed when designing and weaving stitched double cloth
  •  Different techniques to achieve dimensional cloth using stitched double cloth
  •  Emphasis is on loom-controlled stitched double cloth
