Complex Weavers
25th Anniversary Sample CD
Update
Robyn Spady says, hopefully, many of you are aware of the Complex Weavers' Silver Jubilee 2004 Sample Exchange from my messages last year.
Just in case you've been preoccupied with other things . . . CW members were invited to contribute handwoven samples, along with the sample's information and drawdown (deadline was last November). Only two samples were required. The samples were to be organized into two collections; one for the CW libary and the other for auction during CW Seminars next month in Boulder, CO. All of the samples and their respective information were going to be digitized and the entire collection to be placed on CD . . . the CD is going to be distributed with the September issue of the CW Journal to CW members. Note: You must be a CW member as of September 1 in order to receive this.
We've just reached a major milestone . . . A total of 127 different samples were received from all over the world. The collections have been organized and assembled into 10 separate volumes per collection and shipped to Judie Eatough. The collections will be displayed during Convergence at the CW meeting on Friday, July 2nd at 12:00 noon. They will then move on to Boulder for CW Seminar where one of the collections will be auctioned off in volumes. If you would like to participate in the auction and are not able to attend CW Seminars, get in touch with a CW member that may be able to serve as your proxy.
It's an incredible collection of work and reads almost like an international "who's who" in weaving. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work on this project and preview everything . . . and I look forward to others viewing all of the samples.

If you plan on being at Convergence and/or CW Seminars, I hope you will take the opportunity to look through the collections.
The Original Announcement
Complex Weavers members have the opportunity for self-expression and to create a small bit of immortality! As mentioned by Judie Eatough in her president's message in the previous CW Journal, we are pleased to announce a sample exchange with a rather unique twist . . . all samples will be digitized and sent out to members on CD. Because the samples will be digitized, you only need to submit two actual samples instead of weaving yards and yards of fabric. This project is intended to be a 25th Complex Weavers Anniversary gift to each other. The actual samples submitted will be assembled into a final collection for the Complex Weavers library and a collection to be auctioned (in groups) during CW Seminars 2004 in Denver. If you are unable to attend the CW Seminars, you may submit written bid(s) for these items. Information about the sample groups to be auctioned will be available in the May 2004 CW Journal.
Now for the details. Participation in the CW sample is limited to CW members in good standing as of the submission deadline. CW members may submit a maximum of two different samples for the exchange. We request that members submit two actual samples at least 4" x 4" in size, although some techniques may require samples of slightly different sizes to completely show the design and/or weave structure. For each sample submitted, a completed sample sheet is required, outlining the necessary information to recreate the sample. Sample sheets may be completed by computer or by hand. The samples and sample sheets are to be mailed to Robyn Spady. The pages for the CD will be prepared from the sheets you send to her. For clarity in copying these to computer files, please do not write on the backside of the pages. Included in this Journal is a sample sheet that outlines the information needed and to serve as a guide. When copying this for use, copy each side to a separate piece of paper. In addition to the actual samples and sample sheets, you are invited to submit photographs of the finished item. These sheets are intended only as a guideline. If you are preparing your information electronically, use the format that works best for your sample whether it be loom weaving, card weaving, kumihimo or beading. You will want to include the basic information suggested on the guideline sheet.
For scanning purposes, do not attach the samples to the sheets. Write your name on separate tags and attach one to each sample with yarn. Some samples will need to be scanned front and back. If you have wif or other weaving files for your draft, include that on a cd, floppy or email the file to Robyn.
At the bottom of this page is the link to the release form. It needs to be completed and sent with your samples. This form is also available by contacting the sample exchange coordinator, Robyn Spady.
Deadline for submitting samples is November 30, 2003. The sample exchange CD will be distributed with the September 2004 Complex Weavers Journal. Only enough copies will be made to mail with that issue. Additional copies of the CD will not be available for purchase. Be certain that your dues are paid so you will receive the September 2004 Complex Weavers Journal.
Robyn Spady will be coordinating the sample exchange. She can help you with any questions. Contact her at: robyn@bacchusfiberdesigns.com. Ask her for her address to mail your samples or find it in the pullout opposite page 26.
