Complex Weavers Lending Library
History
The CW Lending Library began with a proposal by CW President Sigrid Piroch at the 1988 CW Seminar in Lake Forest, IL. The first librarian was Jacquie Kelly.
The library grew slowly at first. In 1991 after the death of Ken Colwell, one of the Complex Weavers founding members, the library received the bulk of his extensive weaving library. Eleanor Best cataloged that collection and made the date due slips and stamps for the collection. Every year since then we have received a few more donations. In 1993 a memorial bequest from Jim Poulton added many wonderful items to the library.
Wanda Shelp was the editor of the 1999 Library Directory and Ralph Griswold is the editor of the 2002 and 2004 Library Directories. Thanks to all of the above for their contributions.
The library continues to grow. Thanks to the generous donors for donations large and small -- all are greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Ralph Griswold for five years of donations -- usually one box per month. Many other items have been contributed by CW members, including sizeable magazine collections from Marian Hoskinson and Lillian Whipple. Thanks to all the generous donors! Additional items are most welcome and are tax deductible -- please contact the current librarian for information. Cash donations are accepted as well. We also would like to receive suggestions of book titles that should be added to the collection as funds permit.
Thanks to the CW Study Group coordinators & members for providing copies of study group newsletters and swatch exchanges. They have a wealth of information and are a delight to view. In addition to borrowing them from the library you can see them at the CW Seminars and at some of the area conferences.
Thanks to all the members who wrote book reviews-- additional reviewers will be most welcome. Thank to Wanda Shelp for her coordinating efforts and to the following for Directory distribution: Dick Van Dyke (1999 Directory), Sue Hunt (2002 Directory) and Cheri Mulhall (2004 Directory). To all the members -- please send me your requests and happy reading!
CW Early Weaving Books on CD
This is your opportunity to have a weaving rare book library on your computer.
CW is making available CD-ROMs [Windows, Max, and Linux compatible] conatining a number of early printed weaving books including Franz Donat's 9015 patterns, John Murphy's Treatise on the Art of Weaving, the 18th century pattern books of J M Frickinger and J M Kirschbaum, and many other difficult to obtain books. These may be downloaded from Ralph Griswold's web site but it is much easier to pop a CD into your computer and access them in that fashion. Ralph has kindly provided CW with a CD-ROM of the materials. The proceeds above costs will go to help fund future CW publications.
As of September, 2004, five CD's were available in the series. The cost for each CD-ROM is $15 plus $1 postage for the US and Canada and $2 for overseas. Checks, payable to CW, are to be sent to Marjie Thompson. E-mail her for the address marjie@maine.rr.com
Visa, Master Card, Discover Card and Novus accepted as well as check or money order in US funds drawn on a US bank, payable to Complex Weavers.
