Flavian Geis, Complex Weaver
May 1998, Vol:57 pg 20
Naturally, over the course of the years my weaving interest has covered a whole gamut of things from overshot to my current favorite - patterned twills - especially advancing and networked.
I typically weave fairly fine at approximately 40-60 epi using silk or pearl cottons and I always include a few extra yards in the warp to play with sampling and color combinations. I usually start out with shawls and then progress on to yardage which eventually will be used for all types of clothing.
I have had six articles published in Weaver's Magazine in the past two years with the most recent published in Issues 39 (Spring '98). I have participated in the 1996 Portland Convergence fashion show and have submitted entries for the 1998 Atlanta Convergence. I presently sell my work through two local galleries - La Jolla Fiber Art and Trios.
Weaving is just as exciting to me today as it was when I threw my first shuttle in 1980. What a great time to be a weaver in that we have such wonderful weaving programs and computers available to assist with our artistic endeavors. It is so much easier to design on the computer rather than the old graph paper and dreaded X's. I currently weave on a 60" 24 harness AVL which was newly assembled in October '97. It is fantastic.
