Call for proposals
The Complex Weavers 2008 Seminars committee is seeking proposals from potential instructors for the conference. The conference will be held June 28-July 2 at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida. Proposals are sought both from those who have taught at Seminars previously and those who would be new presenters. The focus should be on topics of interest to intermediate and advanced hand-, dobby-, and jacquard-weavers, and could include current trends and techniques, historical perspectives, possible future directions in the art and craft of weaving, etc. The material to be presented should fit comfortably into a two-hour time slot. Complex Weavers Seminars generally has an academic, pencil-and-paper focus rather than hands-on classes and workshops. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2007.

New Publication Dates for the Journal
With the retirement of longtime Journal Editor, Wanda Shelp, the publication of the Journal will move from Wyoming to Utah, the home of new Editor Judie Eatough. The new publisher is part of Brigham Young University, so we are changing the dates of the Journal publication slightly to avoid the hectic publication times of the University. The new dates will be one month later, October, February, and June. Your membership will be extended a month so you will not lose any issues because of the date changes. We expect the new dates to work better than the old because of less interaction with holiday and vacation times. Journal deadlines will remain the same (July 15, November 15, and March 15) to allow the Journal staff more time to work with incoming materials in a sane manner.

LeClerc would like to offer members of Complex Weavers a special opportunity to promote complex weaving to the greater weaving community.
Interested weavers are asked to submit an *original* draft for 16-24 shafts, and plans for a project using the draft in any LeClerc yarn http://www.mbrassard.com/
Six submissions will be chosen to be featured (one every other month) on the LeClerc website http://www.leclerclooms.com/
The featured weavers will receive their choice of LeClerc yarns to weave their project and a sample for LeClerc. Projects may be woven on any make of loom.
When they have enough, LeClerc may publish a book of drafts and projects. The featured weavers need to give their permission for this publication and use on the LeClerc website.
Two anonymous members of CW who are not employed by LeClerc will decide which projects will best promote complex weaving. Wanda Shelp, a CW member, will collect the projects, remove identifying marks, and forward them to the anonymous jurors. For information on submitting projects please email Wanda wjshelp@yahoo.com

Help Preserve our Weaving Heritage
The Early Weaving Books and Manuscript Study Group sees first hand the ravages of time on paper used by early weaver to record their drafts. The inked in portions of some drafts fall like star and rose shaped confetti as the pages are gently turned. Other manuscripts have entire sections that are holes eight to 10 drawdowns deep. Frequently all that a museum or historical society can do with a manuscript in this condition is to put it aside and hope that someday funds will be available. All the while, more parts of the drafts disintegrate.
We would like to do something positive to help preserve the Beyer manuscript at Winterthur, and John Long's Coverlid Book at the Clark Art Institute as well as several others
CW members are invited to help raise funds. Any contribution is welcome [and tax deductible]. Funds raised will be donated to the institutions in the name of Complex Weavers. An appraisal of what needs to be done to preserve the manuscript is about $150.00 and the preservation itself runs over $1000.00.
For more information or to make a donation, contact Marjie Thompson
Awards:
Complex Weavers will be presenting awards for excellence in craftsmanship and complex weaving
at juried shows. See Awards page for details.
Members are invited to submit designs and volunteer to weave the next series of ribbons for the Awards. Contact CW Vice President Amy Norris
The board would love to borrow your slides, photos, or negatives of CW Seminars, regional meetings, etc. in order to make duplicates to use in promoting CW at regional meetings. Contact Chris Spangler.
